This tucked away memorial is for Colonel George L Willard of the 125th New York Infantry, and was erected by the survivors.
Born in New York City in August 1827 and died leading a charge against Confederate troops on July 2nd. The 125th was part of the Harper's Ferry Cowards that surrendered to General Thomas Stonewall Jackson but not from their actions but the garrison commander.
They were paroled in early 1863 and the 1st major engagement was Gettysburg. And they proved, they were not cowards but highly motivated and fighters.
Colonel Willard was hit by an artillery shell and died instantly.
He is buried in Troy New York.

To reach the memorial, follow a grass path straight south away from the PA moment, as though you walk away from the south facing arch. Walk toward a small tree line and wooden fence. When you reach the fence, there's a gap and a path.
