Horrible experience. Absolutely disgusting environment and work staff. There were a select few, I won't mention names, who actually attended to their duties and made residents feel like humans. Marie was a tyrant. Herself and her staff, aside from a half of a handful, treated us like the dirt they walked on. They allowed violence and threats of harm, constantly. I had to call the police multiple times (like we were told via the welcome packet to do) when things got physically dangerous for my son and myself. I ended up having miscarriage and homeless after ESCAPING hope finally. I still am struggling getting my feet under myself to hold steady when it comes to life and the mental anguish myself and my 8 year old son experienced. The roaches, the lack of compassion, the immediate threat of violence, the holding back knowledge and inclination of other resources the shelter DOES have.... The list goes on. I'm currently in the process finally, of filing civil suits for damages.

I have been with the coalition for three years now. It for sure has its problems but, they have helped me so much. I am off the streets and drugs. I was reading all the reviews and noticed how greedy and selfish people are. People don't seem to realize they are the one asking for help and when they get it, all they want to do is complain. You don't like the food? It's better than digging in garbage for scraps. Mold in the building? Better than sleeping on the cold moldy pee soaked park bench. Its a shame how horrifically ungrateful everyone is. God bless the Big Bend Homeless coalition. Thank you.

We have been working with Big Bend for over a year now and they are a delight to work with! They are truly doing a great thing for all of those that they help and their process is smooth for us as Property Managers. They go above and beyond to help with finding housing for every situation. Great people and program!

I am a landlord. I executed a lease with a Big Bend Homeless Coalition client on Monday February 5, 2024 in the presence of BBHC staff. I was told that the deposit check would be printed and delivered on Friday February 9, 2024. It was not delivered until Monday February 26, 2024. In spite of the check having a memo note saying it was for move-in expenses (2 months rent security deposit and February rent), the delivery personnel claimed that the check is for March rent! When I contacted the case manager, Jude, he stated the Coalition would pay 50% of the March rent rather than the 100% I was told on February 5th. Luckily, the lease is only a month-to-month! The tenant will be receiving a termination notice on February 29th! I don't need the headache of dealing with a bunch of shysters!

Again, I was assured on February 26th that the March rent check would be mailed on March 1. As of March 11, it still hasn't arrived. And no one is answering the phones! I will certainly never work with this organization again...unless they pay in advance!

A family shelter to help you get on your feet. Staff is okay, but some residents... Let's just say pick your battles wisely. Stay to yourself and things tend to run smoothly. Could be a lot cleaner if everyone cleaned up after their families! Needs a lot of repairs, but tbh the repairs are being made..... SLOWLY!

Disgusted with the nerve staff has to ask for donations of furniture from my company. Decided to donate a nice brand new mattress AND covered delivery expenses since they were unable to pick up. When getting to the house the person who had supposedly been sleeping on only a boxspring already, had a decent looking mattress which she asked us to drag out to the dumpster for her. I will never again donate to this organization.

The staff is as nutty as the nuttiest residents...

If you are a marijuana/crack/coke/molly/pill addicted lowlife, this is the place for you.

If you've been iincarcerated, or were raised by abusive parents, this environment will suit you splendidly.

If you are a person who cowers and/or sucks up to people who consider themselves better than you, you'll be adored here.

But, if you are in full posession of rapidly firing neurons, raising your children respectfully, and aren't prone to fits of neediness, this place will drive you to the brink of madness.

They serve three meals a day. Sounds good in the brochure, but wait til you set sail! Breakfast is a small bowl of cold cereal, lunch is pb&j on dry bread with a mini bag of chips, and dinner is often more recognizable as canned dog food than the beef stew they swear it is.

The meatloaf was so bloody one day, that residents were literally vomiting in the dorms a few hours later. Ditto for the meatballs.

It wouldn't be a problem if we were allowed to prepare our own meals with a crock pot or electric kettle, but, alas, these items are disallowed.
